How to Find Ogden Waters....
Ogden Waters is another hidden away place that often gets passed over unless you're fairly local.
Get Outdoors in the Fresh Air with nice scenery, take a walk around the large Reservoir, venture along the tracks into the large Wooded area around it or explore a Moorland walk high above. This is a great place to take the kids to run off some energy, exercise the dog, and just to get out and about and enjoy the countryside without being miles away from civilization.
Bring some bread and feed the ducks and geese, not only are they in the water but they can often be found wandering around on the footpath and grass at the picnic area ne the corner of the Promenade.
There are many pathways you can take with the shortest one being a circular route around the reservoir edge, don't worry it is fenced/walled off so nobody accidently wanders into the water. From the car park go through the small wooden gate and walk straight down the pathway through a wooded area until you reach the side of the water, just keep following the pathway to the left around the lake. Take the high road by following one of the walks up into the woods above. Go through the gate as before and down to the water, go left over a small metal bridge and there you'll find a track on your right going up into the woods, go up here again it loosely follows a circular route around the water. Don't worry if you stick to the tracks they eventually bring you back down to the reservoir. Or from the ground car park head for the large metal gate and follow the wide track up onto the moorland and explore. Beware, there are often sheep up here so please keep your dogs on a lead. Please Note:- When it has been raining recently all routes will be muddy and have puddles on them. Please wear appropriate footwear. Facilities...
Parking...
It's FREE unless you would like to make a donation.
Over 3 levels built into the hillside with limited spaces - Ground is largest parking area, upper 2 levels accessed up a very rough narrow road with only a few spaces on each level. There are a couple of Blue Badge parking bays outside entrance to car park. If the Car Parks are full (which happens sometimes especially on hot summer days), there is no other available parking close by. Please Note:- Car Parks are gated and locked overnight. Make sure you check the signs to see what time the car park will be locked when you visit. In summer time it's mid to late evening and in winter when it's usually when it gets dark.
How to Get Here...
Set your Sat Nav for HX2 8XZ for Ogden Lane.
Drive to the end of Ogden Lane which is a narrow country lane. Please be aware of pedestrians, dogs and vehicles coming the other way, when the road opens up and there is a left hand bend you will see the car parking area straight ahead of you. Do not turn left down the hill, there is NO other parking available.
Accessibility....
It's a rugged outdoor area, mainly over rough walking tracks with possible mud & puddles after rain.
If you venture into the woods there are some steep steps or tracks to climb up or go down. Wheelchair or Mobility Scooter access from the Blue Badge bays is available if you head down hill down the tarmac road you can get access to the "Promenade" which runs along one side of the reservoir. The Promenade has a narrow concrete pathway to the side of the cobbled road that runs along the side of the reservoir. The promenade gives nice views of the area across the reservoir. The rest of the walk around the reservoir is mainly a woodland track that means a rough ride if in a wheelchair or on a mobility scooter. There are also access gates for the pathway around the reservoir that are not really wheelchair or mobility scooter access friendly and may prevent access for larger mobility wheelchairs or scooters.
